Founder's story
Aaron and his cousin, probably around the year 2000.
When his aunt Kathleen passed away and left her entire photo collection to him, he was both honoured and excited to help preserve these cherished memories. Aaron had always been passionate about photography. As a teenager, he loved to take pictures and capture memories of his family and friends.
However, Aaron soon realised that while the physical photos were precious heirloom, they were also difficult to share and access. Many of his family members lived far away, and it wasn't practical to send the photos back and forth.
With the photos scattered across different albums and boxes, it was hard to find specific pictures when they were needed.
That's when Aaron came up with the idea of digitising all of them - no mean feat whenever they're all stored in large coffee table photo albums. He spent countless hours scanning each photo and converting them into digital files. Then, he organised them in roughly chronological order including any notes or dates Kathleen wrote on the back of some photos (automatically detected when scanning) and made them available in a handy online gallery.
Now, anyone can browse and download photos whenever they wish.
The result was amazing. All of Aaron's family members had access to Kathleen's entire photo collection from the comfort of their own phones. They could easily search for specific photos, like a family wedding or a favourite holiday spot.
As word spread, Aaron began to receive interest from other families who wanted to digitise their own photo collections. And so, Photo Scans Ireland was born.
Today, Photo Scans Ireland is helping families across the country preserve and share their cherished memories. And while Aaron never could have predicted that his aunt's photo collection would lead him down this path, he's grateful for the opportunity to help others do the same.
Thank you for your support.
